John Rentoul is chief political commentator for The Independent on Sunday. He is the author of a
biography of Tony Blair. He has been chief leader writer and a political correspondent for The
Independent and a political reporter for the BBC. Before that he was deputy editor of the New
Statesman, having begun his career as a journalist on Accountancy Age. He was born in India and
educated at schools in Bangalore, Bristol and Wolverhampton, and at King's College, Cambridge.
